If you, like many others in the industry, were discouraged by the changes to the Energy Star Portfolio Manager scoring system in August, 2018, there is some good news coming out of the EPA today. Taking into account stakeholder feedback, the EPA has begun a process to revise the new 1-100 scoring model to include adjustments for heating degree days, which they say will likely increase the scores of buildings in colder climates and “no buildings will see a decrease” in score.
These changes only impact the calculation models for office buildings, but nevertheless, it’s a change in the right direction to correct what most felt was an over-adjustment.
